AppleLove

Almost four years ago Matt was starting Seminary and the daunting task of purchasing a computer was in front of us. For obvious reasons, Matt was going to be using the computer a whole lot more than I was and he had his heart set on a Mac. I had never used a Mac before, but could really care less so we got the Mac. I am SO thankful we made this decision, our Mac laptop has been awesome. But this past week, Apple went above and beyond. Our Mac was freaking out (that's the technical term, in case you were wondering) so Matt made an appointment at the Apple store for 5pm on Saturday. They took our computer and on Monday morning overnighted it to, hmmm... wherever Apple computers are overnighted to, they fixed it on Tuesday and overnighted it to us and we received it on Wednesday. It looks like a brand new computer, not only did they fix the freaking out problem, but they replaced all these different pieces that just had "cosmetic" damages. The total cost to us: $0!! Can you even believe it? Our computer isn't even under warranty anymore. So it's official, I'm an apple lover.
This morning, Case, my sister and I packed up to head to PC gym day... while we were driving down the driveway all of a sudden BAM! It quickly became obvious we couldn't drive the car another inch... we had it towed and the mechanic called... I can't even type the cost of getting the car fixed, it's too difficult. Hmmmm... maybe we can overnight it to Apple and they can fix it for free. or maybe not.
Well to end on a happy note... I'm on my sisters computer so I'll attach a cute picture of Case that she has on her computer.

The Tundra

So I'm back in MD after a week long visit home in MN! Seeing friends and family was really great. Traveling was not so great. Case did really well so that was a blessing! On my way to MN my first flight was cancelled and then they rebooked me and that was delayed several hours - all in all not the end of the world. I met several other travelers and as we comiserated together, everyone kept asking, where are you trying to get to? After I said, MN... the response was always - "The Tundra??" I know I am one of a few people who feel this way, but I LOVE MN! It was great to see beautiful white snow! I also went for a run when it was in the single digits, felt great! Apparently I am just designed for cold weather... but enough about my love for the MN weather. Case and I had a great time visiting with everyone, we are looking forward to our next visit in March. What I am not looking forward to is more traveling... enter story about traveling back to MD. ugh... We arrived at the Minneapolis airport, checked in, flight was on time, great! On our way to Philly Case slept for the first 90 mintues, woke up, we played for a bit, all was great until... the descent. Turbulance doesn't begin to explain, it was about 25 minutes of being violently shaken (have I mentioned I get motion sickness). Well I spent the whole time thinking how horrible it would be if I got sick, but I didn't! I was amazed I didn't smother Case, I was hugging him so tightly! We landed safely and I had about 30 minutes to eat some soup and hop on my flight to Baltimore where Case and I were ready to see Matty again! The flight was only 27 minutes, what could go wrong? Up we went and I quickly realized the descent on the previous flight was a piece of cake compared to this flight. Case was sleeping again and I was literally counting to 60 over and over again thinking 'all I have to do is do this 27 times and we'll be on the ground'. Well after about 10 minutes I turned to the nice santa claus looking grandpa next to me and said, 'um can you please hold my son, I think I am going to be sick'. Case didn't even wake up as I handed him to the stranger and 30 seconds later I was staring into one of those nasty white airplane "barf bags" doing my fair share in giving that little bag it's name. Other passengers were throwing their bags at me! Um, thanks? The flight attendant came, gave me some ice chips and I thought, at least thats over! Wrong... round two was just as miserable and at this moment I am contemplating never getting on a plane again!

Anticipation

I'm really looking forward to the next two days... tomorrow we have the PC "Sweetheart Banquet". I can't wait, but to be honest I have no idea what it's going to be like. All I know is that I am getting dressed up, Matt is getting dressed up, we have a babysitter and everyone says the Sweetheart Banquet will be great! So I'm trusting them and really looking forward to it!
Then on Monday I am heading back to MN for a week, I can't wait to see friends and family! The one thing that's difficult about this year is I feel like my friends and family back home don't get to see Case during all of these fun stages. He's rolling over, giggling and growing like a weed (in length only, he's a string bean!). It seems like he's changed so much since Christmas, I am thankful people will get to see him again!
I might not get a chance to blog again for a couple days, so I'll leave you with another picture of Case!

Janu-hairy to Gary

During the month of January the PC guys decided to do Janu-hairy, meaning they didn't shave. So Matt grew a beard, and by my surprise, a pretty good one! They concluded this male bonding event by having a day titled "Janu-hairy to Gary". Gary Ricucci is the Pastor for the PC guys and their families. Gary and his wife, Betsy have had such an impact on our life, marriage, parenting, you name it... oh, and did I mention, Gary has a mustache. So on "Janu-hairy to Gary" day, the guys shaved off their beards, but left their mustaches in honor of Gary. They also put white accrilic paint in their hair and mustaches so they would look even more like Gary! It was so weird to see Matt with a mustache - I thought he looked like a basketball coach from the 70's. But when he added the paint and parted his hair, Matt and I were both pretty amazed how much he looked like his dad.
Here are some pictures from the day...

Gary is the one directly to Matt's right, Matt has his hand on his shoulder.

Case didn't quite know what to think of his daddy, can you blame him?!

All in all, a great memory! And a little insight into what Matt might look like in 30 years!

Peer Pressure...

So hopefully my life is not marked by falling into peer pressure - but to get me to blog, peer pressure is what it took! I never thought I would blog, I love reading my friend's blogs but I typically hate writing. I am not promising anything impressive, but hopefully this will be a way to share with friends and family what is going on in our lives. And let's be honest, who everyone really wants to hear about is... Case! I promise to post lots of pictures (hmm... have to figure out how to do that) and stories of our little buddy.
So a little update on where we are and what we are doing. For those of you who may not know... Matt and I are currently living in Gaithersburg, MD while Matt attends the Sovereign Grace Pastors College. We have lived here since August, Case was born in September and here we are in February and I am finally starting a blog... I've always been successful at procrastinating! This year at the PC has been an incredible experience for our little family. We have had a wonderful time learning from, laughing with and just living life together with the other Pastors College and CLC families the Lord has brought into our life this year. It's hard to believe we only have a few months left here! Come June, we'll be moving back to MN and returning to our home church, Sovereign Grace Fellowship. We love SGF and are really looking forward to returning home!
Matt and I recently celebrated our 4 year anniversary and this past weekend Matt surprised me and planned a weekend getaway to celebrate. We had a great time in Ocean City, Maryland, relaxing, eating out, watching movies - a very Wassink way to vacation. The highlight besides getting to spend time with my husband (homework free!) was taking Case swimming for the first time! He was mostly interested in his bright red shorts with sharks on them. The water was a little chilly so we didn't have him in very long, but it was such a great memory and a reminder of so many "firsts" we have to look forward to!
Ok, that wasn't as painful as I expected... first blog done, hopefully many more to come! And now as I promised, pictures of Case!
