Wassink Weekend

Despite one, not so tiny, bump in the road and a few dropped balls (literally), we had a GREAT time last weekend in Iowa/Nebraska celebrating Cornie's Birthday!
We drove down Friday night and after an hour or so of the kids crying, they fell asleep and we were having a nice drive. Then... all of a sudden BOOM! We hit a deer. Ugh. A dead deer in the middle of the road. Matt actually did the best thing by hitting it. We were going about 65 miles an hour, came up over a little hill and it was right there. If he tried to swerve, we probably would have rolled and been in an actual accident. So he hit it head on and it seriously felt like we were airborne for a second before landing back on the ground. We drove the rest of the way to Matt's parents house and decided we'd just have to deal with it on Monday!
We got up early Saturday morning and headed to Lincoln for the Nebraska vs. Texas football game. Case stayed in Iowa with his Great Aunt Miriam and his Great Uncle Dave. He had a blast playing with his cousin once removed, Stella! They played in the leaves, went to a park and carved a pumpkin. Sadie came along to the game since she won't take a bottle!
When we got to Lincoln, we tailgated and walked around for a bit. Kari and I were officially accepted into the family when we purchased our first Nebraska Cornhuskers apparel. Then we headed into the stadium! It was such a fun atmosphere, we had a great time! Sadie did AMAZING! It was so loud and crazy and she was such a trooper. The only bummer was that, for the life of them, Nebraska couldn't catch a pass! So they lost the game, but it was still fun to be there!
Sunday morning we went to church and then headed to a park to celebrate Thanksgiving with the extended Wassink Family. It was great food and we had a ton of fun visiting with the family and watching the kids play at the playground! That night, Cornie and Deb watched the kids so Matt and I could go out to dinner.
We hung around until Tuesday afternoon so our car could be fixed. So on Monday night we got to go to a JV Northwestern game that Cornie was officiating at. We took the opportunity to dress Case up in his halloween costume! When Matt and Ryan were little they went as a football official and Matt's parents saved the costume! So here's Case with "Bonka"! That's what he calls Matt's parents. When we said, "Case, can you say Grandpa/Grandma." He said, "Bonka!" and it stuck!
So here's Case and Bonka!

4 months old!

On October 3rd, Sadie turned 4 months old! (Our internet was down again, so the post is just coming now!) I can't believe how quickly our sweet little girl is changing and growing up. She continues to be such a sweet, happy little baby! She loves to smile and laugh. Actually she does what Case used to do - this mouth wide open as much as possible silent laugh. It's pretty funny. Case is the one who is most successful at getting her to actually giggle. She just loves her older brother!
Sadie is a big time thumb sucker. I had no idea how great that would be! She completely self soothes herself whenever she's fussy. When I lay her down for a nap or to go to bed at night she just pops her thumb in her mouth grabs her blanket or her hair with her other hand and goes right to sleep.
So far she's not too interested in attempting to roll over. She is pretty sturdy and prefers to be in her exersaucer or held in a sitting position. She's pretty close to sitting up on her own - I think she might do that before rolling over.
Here are a few pics from the last couple months...

And my new fav... the pigtails!
Love you sweet, Sadie!

The Birthday Party!

On September 19th, we celebrated Case's 2nd birthday party up at my parents house with our families. It was so fun that we could all be together to celebrate Case. We were reminded how thankful we are to have such wonderful families who love our children!
It was a perfect fall day and the theme of the birthday party was fishing! Matt and I got Case a beta fish for his birthday, which he named, Dory! He was our centerpiece - if you can see him here :)We had a great time being outside playing ladder golf and pushing the kids on the swing set.
Then the kids went "fishing" off the deck. Here's Case with Papa when he "caught" his lizard!
Macey and Case playing with the fish stickers they "caught".Case LOVED opening his presents and kept cheering, "more toys!!" Here he is very excited about the train station that Uncle Ryan and Aunt Kari gave him!
Sadie enjoyed the party and all of the attention from everyone!
Jordan wasn't so sure about the party hats!
Case loved everyone singing happy birthday to him and couldn't wait to dive into the cupcakes!
We put together a slideshow of Case from this last year and Macey and Case wanted to watch it over and over again with Aunt Brookie!
Love you, Buddy!
